New Delhi!

We are in another oasis nirvana in our India trip: at the house of a former DC family who now live in Delhi. The dad, Christophe, works for the World Bank on water sanitation and they have three kids at home (one the perfect age to play with Steven) and one child in college in the US. I am sitting in their living room on their laptop after eating a breakfast: croissants (Christophe is French) cereal, fruit, tea and juice. They have a cook, cleaning person, and driver so it's the good life for us a few days.

Later on Friday...
We successfully dropped in on a doctor and got Sheetal the required medical exam but the Embassy cannot find one document they need to process Sheetal so we must wait while they contact Baltimore. We have all of Monday and Tuesday to complete the process so I am hopeful that we will be good to go on Monday. The American Embassy is on pretty much a road full of embassies: Qatar, Sweden, Dubai and many more. The family driver drove us to the doctor and embassy but we took a rickshaw home. An adventure in intimate contact with traffic!

Silvie, the mom (who met Christophe when he was in the Peace Corps in Rwanda) has been a most gracious hostess. She fed us rice, chicken, bread and fruit when we returned from the embassy. She took me along to pick up the kids from school (American Embassy School & Delhi Public School) and showed me the dirty river where the pigs were playing and the people were taking out jugs of water for drinking. So sad.

We had a lovely beef dinner (she found a Muslim butcher as the Hindus don't eat beef) and I ended the day by talking to my mother and kids. A sweet day overall.

Today we plan on doing a little shopping and taking the kids to an air conditioned play place.
